[2026 Dimensional Weight Guide] Actual Weight vs Volumetric Weight + 30 Product Reference

- 2 min read
At PotatoShip, a common question is: why is this parcel charged so heavy? The key is often volumetric weight, not actual weight.
Chargeable weight = max(actual weight, volumetric weight).
Volumetric formula: length × width × height ÷ 5000 (cm).
Quick example
Sneakers with shoebox, 36×26×15 cm: volumetric = 2.808 kg. If actual is 1.6 kg, billing uses 2.808 kg.
Measure the final packed outer carton before shipment. Guessing dimensions usually causes underestimation.
